This Mountain

Jilly’s 28 Days Of Unreason Poetry – Day 12

Write a poem inspired by this quote:

“The mountains are so dominant that some days the people refuse to look at them as children turn away from the fathers that beat them” – by Jim Harrison –  from Songs of Unreason

This Dark Mountain

Just as with God the Father
do some of His children
turn away from Him as if
He’s the one who beats them

It is not God who beats
but the human fist that blows
upon the innocent child…

Because the human has known naught
of the love of the Heavenly Father
for violence is what the fist was taught

But for the Grace the child
shall be saved and repeat not
what the child had learned before

And break this cycle of violence
through the spoken silence
that was once immure…

That others may rise to
overcome this mountain
