Raw Love Pure & A Rose With Thorns

Jilly’s 28 Days Of Unreason Poetry – Day 20

Write a poem inspired by this quote:

“Love is raw as freshly cut meat, mean as a beetle on the track of dung.”

Jim Harrison – from Songs of Unreason

I was inspired to write the new poem “Raw Love Pure” & was reminded of a poem I wrote several years ago called “A Rose With Thorns,” so I decided to include both.

Raw Love Pure & A Rose With Thorns

Raw Love Pure

Raw Love pure, unfathomed
by the human mind
it cuts the soul to
bleed for another
despite the pain, anguish
this blood will love
beyond itself and
in that find wholeness, healing
pouring out blessings
upon others
for when we cease to bleed
we cease to love…

A Rose With Thorns

A rose
with thorns
His love
adorns

Come tears
pain fear
trudging
to persevere

Corridor dark
doors unopen
wayworn and blacken

Lonely alone
left behind
need comfort
gaze misaligns

Empty hunger
temptations
arise
praying not
victory compromised

Flesh weak
giving way
why did I chose
not to pray

Beat down
broken
hating my choice
in this moment
I rejoice

Mercies
in the morrow
sweetest joys
borne of sorrow

A rose
with thorns
His love
adorns.
