I have had many sorrows and sad times

In my numerous years of living on the earth

as I sit in pensive stillness and recollect

I realized I used to see my life as

unfortunate and an ill-fated waste

~ * ~

But now through Grace healed eyes

I can see that I am fortunate to have known

so much darkness, defilement, abuse and

the other experiences that broke me down

to the deepest part of the valley depths

where death inspired me to call out to

the Light of Life that raised me up and…

~ * ~

Bestowed upon me…

a crown of beauty for my ashes

the oil of joy for my mourning

a garment of praise for my spirit of despair

to be a planted oak of righteousness

for the display of His splendor…

~ * ~

Yes, I am fortunate to have been

blessed by many sorrows and sad times.

~ * ~

Isaiah 61:3 (NIV)

and provide for those who grieve in Zion—

to bestow on them a crown of beauty

   instead of ashes,

the oil of joy

   instead of mourning,

and a garment of praise

instead of a spirit of despair.

They will be called oaks of righteousness,

   a planting of the Lord

for the display of his splendor.

~ * ~
