Reena’s Exploration Challenge #108 – PROMPT: You can choose any one line out of the seven given here, and use it as the first line for your piece. Here are the seven lines to choose from:
“For I have known them all already, known them all:
Have known the evenings, mornings, afternoons;
I have measured out my life with coffee spoons.”
Source: “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” by T.S. Eliot
“Down, down, down into the darkness of the grave
Gently they go, the beautiful, the tender, the kind;
Quietly they go, the intelligent, the witty, the brave.
I know. But I do not approve. And I am not resigned.”
Source:“Dirge Without Music” by Edna St. Vincent Millay:
For I have already known them all
through the risings and the falls
evenings, mornings, afternoons
life’s tragic and comedic cartoons
drowning darkness of the grave
bold courage it takes to be brave
the ugly, the callous, and unrefined
the beautiful, the tender, and kind
a plan for me that was pre-designed
and to this plan…I am finally resigned.

The last two lines hit hard – we are given an inflated view of our value in the system. Maybe it is needed to help survival , or dejection will lead to inaction.
