Deborah, well said. As I was digesting this, I remember reading the play “Raisin in the Sun” in World Literature in college. This was before ever seeing the movie with Sidney Poitier and Ruby Dee.
My professor made a point of making sure we understood the most impactful parts of the play, one of which is when Mama told her daughter-in-law the following. It is easy to love someone when everything is going well. It is when things fall apart that it gets hard.
If you remember the play, Poitier’s character squanders his father’s life insurance benefits and his wife must help him pick up the mess he made. Keith
