Listless I Climb

Listless I Climb

These stairs I climb
seem to go on and on
a neverending trudge
to the land of promises
there’s no place to stop
there’s no place to take
a breath and rest to see
if the sun still shines
It seems as though
the promises will never come…
As I continue to climb
with a listless hope
my muscles writhe in anguish
I call for help yet…
silence is the only sound
I keep yearning for a
plateau with a bench
to rest this weary soul and body
but one never comes…
my breath becomes faint
and my eyes grow dim
desperate for light to shine
still, I cannot find the sun
maybe, soon, it will find me
and the promised promises
will finally become a reality
instead of only just a dream
hoped for…
Listless I climb
aching for the promises
to become mine.

Raw Love Pure & A Rose With Thorns

Jilly’s 28 Days Of Unreason Poetry – Day 20

Write a poem inspired by this quote:

“Love is raw as freshly cut meat, mean as a beetle on the track of dung.”

Jim Harrison – from Songs of Unreason

I was inspired to write the new poem “Raw Love Pure” & was reminded of a poem I wrote several years ago called “A Rose With Thorns,” so I decided to include both.

Raw Love Pure & A Rose With Thorns

Raw Love Pure

Raw Love pure, unfathomed
by the human mind
it cuts the soul to
bleed for another
despite the pain, anguish
this blood will love
beyond itself and
in that find wholeness, healing
pouring out blessings
upon others
for when we cease to bleed
we cease to love…

A Rose With Thorns

A rose
with thorns
His love

Come tears
pain fear
to persevere

Corridor dark
doors unopen
wayworn and blacken

Lonely alone
left behind
need comfort
gaze misaligns

Empty hunger
praying not
victory compromised

Flesh weak
giving way
why did I chose
not to pray

Beat down
hating my choice
in this moment
I rejoice

in the morrow
sweetest joys
borne of sorrow

A rose
with thorns
His love

Sweet Surrender

Jilly’s 28 Days Of Unreason Poetry – Day 19

Write a poem inspired by this quote:

“I’m quite tired of beating myself up to write. I think I’ll start letting the words slip out like a tired child. “Can I have a piece of pie” he asks, and then he’s asleep back on the cusp of the moon.”  – Jim Harrison from Songs of Unreason.

Sweet Surrender

Oh sweet stillness
of the Universe
in You I shall
sit and partake
of the surrender of will
lest it now overtake me
and silence the Muse…

Thus, let the lyrics
of the Muse sing
to the rhythm of my
soul’s dance
that its music flow
freely inviting other
souls to dance with me

As the words are scribed
let not silence mute
the pen’s rapture
for to the poet
writing is…breath of life!

God’s Promise For Today…

Promise #170 – Tuesday, June 19, 2018

Promise #170:
I will give you a garment of praise in exchange for your spirit of heaviness.

Isaiah 61:3 (WEB)
to appoint to those who mourn in Zion, to give to them a garland for ashes,
the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
that they may be called trees of righteousness,
the planting of Yahweh, that he may be glorified.
