The Little Sparrow’s Melody

Written In Response To:

V.J. Weekly Challenge #62: Child/Childhood –  Ponder what it means to be a child.

A Chipping Sparrow in Sunset Light

A child of darkness

a child of light

a child of weakness

a child of might

A child of weeping

a child of laughter

a child of dreaming

a child of slaughter

A child of love and hate

both became this child’s fate

the warring within raged

a tender sparrow’s imprisoned cage

One day an Angel came

opened the cage to set her free

this sparrow’s life was never the same

she was free to fly, free to breathe

War turned to peace clarity beckoned

finally she was able to sing her song

through Wisdom she now reckoned

it was to Love she knew she belong

Blessed is this precious sparrow

who has known darkness’s tragedy

for the dawn of every new tomorrow

hope has become her soul’s melody.

Outbuildings at Hethel

As a little girl growing up

living in a house of darkness

I developed this mechanical gadget

that helped me survive the atrocities

the only way a child could all on her own

As I grew into a young adult

this darkness would continue to rule

over my life attracting the darkness repeatedly

until this mechanical gadget could no

longer help me survive and finally broke…

Yet, this was the most beautiful day of my life

for I called out to no one but the One who would

pick up all the broken pieces of my mechanical gadget

and through His tender velvet touches of Grace

turned my mechanical gadget into a heart of love.

The Death Of Not Letting Go

NaPoWriMo Challenge 2019 – Day 18

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #83

PROMPT:

Free Verse Revolution April Writing Prompt #3 – The Things Left Behind

April’s Theme: Death

IMG_2290.PNG

When spiritual felonies are committed against us

the rape of the soul, the murder of our spirit

things that seem completely impossible to forgive

they can fester so deep with the core where light lives

manifesting into life-size weighted puppets

hanging from the ceiling of the soul

turning it upside down from light to darkness

causing a slow and painful death of spirit

when forgiveness is not the chosen way

and these puppets and their shadows

are not, through forgiveness, the things left behind.

PROMPT:

“Don’t simply brush away the inexplicable connectedness we’ll occasionally taste as we experience certain people, places and works of art. These mere seconds of quite synchronicity and understanding count. They always, always count. You just have to know and believe it. ~Victoria Erickson -Photo by Photo.Manic on Flickr

In a night’s moment…

the inner eyes gaze into the ebony ascent

where the thorns of the soul do not bleed

a river of tears finally begins to recede

and pain evolves into a soothing numb

wafting in the sweet scent of escape’s succumb

until reality’s stark light shines its brightness

we grow accustomed to darkness.
