Yet, another mask

painted in brilliant colors

sparkling glitter and

neon brush stokes

catching the attention

of all eyes passing by…

But the dispirited eyes

behind the mask

speak of truth hidden

the ache of the lost soul

desperate to be set free

from the prison of facade

The intent to

create an illusion

is masked by her

desperation

to keep her secrets

hidden

out of fear

it will become

known

she’s not as

perfect

as she presents

herself to be

because

no one told her

flaws

are her true beauty

Inner Truth

BrewNSpew Cafe – Word Of The Week – Pretend

NaPoWriMo Challenge 2019 – Day 8 – April 8, 2019

V.J.’s Weekly Challenge #43: Rain

The Haunted Wordsmith Opposites Attract Challenge – April 8, 2019

I provide one word and a list of its antonyms. The challenge is to use the prompt word AND one (or more) of its antonyms in some form of writing (or creative work).

Today’s word: underestimate.

Antonyms: overestimate, overrate, overvalue.

Espelho

While inside my heart there is rain

I pretend that on the outside

there are crystal blue waters,

sunshine, and lemon yellow blossoms

a facade to hide my secret pain

that I thought would help me

hold back the levee of tears…

~ * ~

But I underestimated the strength of the strain

and overestimated the weakness of my facade

I then realized that this plan was so very flawed

I knew I had to allow the unspoken words

of my heart to have their say

to transform my outer display

into my inner truth.

A Street Named Normal

Bikurgurl 100 Word Wednesday: Week 74

What 100 words would you give this image?

Walking along a street named Normal
reminds me of a past of secret abysmal
with a house that looked good on the outside
and the darkness no one knew on the inside

A yellow house with white trim
an erected white fence around the yard’s rim
two kids, two dogs, two cars, too much facade
going to church every Sunday posing our fraud

Oh the hypocrisy and the damage to my soul
I am ever so grateful for these days of ole’
for it broke me to desperately seek the Light
Light found me and gave my blind eyes sight
