It is especially when life feels too small or big to handle, too predictable or uncertain, that we need the gifts of gratefulness.

Life is a gift that is given and will be taken. How we choose to spend our time here is our gift to life. It is our way of saying “thank you life” for the gift.

Gratefulness offers a merciful path for walking through life with our eyes and hearts wide open. It supports us to attend to the potency of what is life-affirming, beautiful, and moving in our exact moments of brokenheartedness. It invites us to sit with paradox in more fully noticing the magnificence of humanity as we face the mire.

The life pouring through us, pumping our heart and breathing through our lungs, did not begin at our birth or conception. Like every particle in every atom and molecule of our bodies, it goes back through time to the first splitting and spinning of the stars.

It all begins with one soul
beatdown, broken, hopeless
hated, unwanted, abandoned
unloved, silently dying within
down in the valley’s darkness
drowning in its own tears
unspoken words of the heart
that only Love can hear and
give answer to their call…
Movement of the soul begins
a rising to the mountain top
these souls are the unnoticed
for they do not lay claim for themselves
they are the ones whose wings cannot be seen
lighthouses whose beam of Light shines
bright through the darkest storm
whose peace is undisturbable, their
forgiveness, compassion, and love are
poured out unconditionally upon others
even for the ones that destroyed them…
They walk silently upon this earth
in humble gratitude for the Love that
breathed Life into their death…they are God’s
Champions Of Grace.

Human beings are not born once and for all on the day their mothers give birth to them, but . . . life obliges them over and over again to give birth to themselves.
