Word For The Day…

From Gratefulness.org

I wonder if gratefulness is the bridge from sorrow to joy, spanning the chasm of our anxious striving. Freed from the burden of unbridled desires, we can enjoy what we have, celebrate what we’ve attained, and appreciate the familiar. For if we can’t be happy now, we’ll likely not be happy when.

The Great Mist’s By And By

The Great Mist's By And By

This land where I walk
is filled with a Great Mist
so much so that I can not see
where my next step will take me

I’ve been lost in this place
for a very long time
trying to find my way back
to the season of the Sun’s rising

I have been wandering for so long
that my heart no longer has a song
and my joy is now only sorrow
weeping for it to end in each new morrow

But with each new day my soul
continues to pour forth its rain
with a torment of unending pain
drowning in a flood of no reprieve

There are moments where it seems
that this Great Mist will begin to lift
so I take my next blind step
and again I begin to drift

Oh, my weary soul just wants to lay down and sleep
and never again know this seemingly unending weep
while waiting for Love to hear my piercing cry
in this land of The Great Mist’s by and by.

As Christmas Day draws near I find there are two shades dwelling in my heart. One is the joy of celebrating my Savior’s birth. The other is the sadness of no family or community to celebrate with. I do, however, have a Light that shines on the darker shade of my heart…

grateful for the storm
veiling the inner cloudburst
enveloped in Love

although I have sorrow I can still experience the joy given through the gift of grace!

In Truth And Deed

1 John 3-18

So much cruelty in the world
breaking and grieving the heart
sometimes…it seems as though…
the sadness will never depart

But there is a Hope to be found
in the Grace that grants new sight
the Strength within that can abound
and raise us up into Beautiful Might

To shine Divinity upon the world’s despair
and help the world know through kindness
that there is the Heart that does care
and desires to heal the brokenness

And know the Joy that brings life
the Love that ends sorrow and strife
the Victory that conquers the world
the Power that defeats the dark one who kills

So with a Love from days of ole
let us not love merely in word alone
but let us love in Truth and deed
and plant in this world Salvation’s Seed.

I Walked A Mile

Autumn Wallpaper

I really like this simple but powerfully stated poem by Robert Browning Hamilton called “I Walked A Mile.”  It is only two stanzas but has a lot to say:

“I walked a mile with Pleasure;
She chatted all the way
But left me none the wiser
For all she had to say.

I walked a mile with Sorrow;
And ne’er a word said she
But, oh! The things I learned from her,
When Sorrow walked with me.”

I completely agree with what he said in this poem for I have received many more blessings from Sorrow than ever I did from Pleasure!  Please share your thoughts with me on this poem!
