Thorns Of Beauty

Jilly’s 28 Days Of Unreason Poetry – Day 23

Write a poem inspired by this quote:

“His mind’s all black thickets and blood.” – Jim Harrison from Songs of Unreason

Thorns Of Beauty

Thorns of beauty are the ones
that prick us deep to bleed
more than just one drop
they are the planted seed
that produces abundant crop

Strong vines holding gentle roses
with an aroma none can resist
to hold them and love them
is to know a pain so perfect
that captures a heart

And from this love one
can never depart instead
they become two vines entwined
as one force of power that overcomes
the black thickets of death
that roam this world lost and
thirsty for Love’s blood…

Drink of it like a fine aged wine
and these black thickets become
reborn into strong vines holding
gentle roses with thorns of beauty.

The Darkest Music’s Beauty – Freestyle Poem

Jilly’s 28 Days Of Unreason Poetry – Day 7

Write a poem inspired by this quote by Jim Harrison:

What beauty in this the darkest music over which you can hear the lightest music of human behavior, the tender connection between men and galaxies.”  From Warbler / Dead Man’s Float

The Darkest Music's Beauty

Ah, the beauty that happens
when the darkest music
plays in my soul
with its lyrics of despair
that bring me to my knees
to realize the dark human behavior
that caused this music to play
awakening my inner eyes to see
the need for my human behavior
to be enlightened
and become the lightest music
that is the tender connection
to the Lover of our souls

Refined – 10-Lined Rhyming Poem

Sammi Cox Weekend Writing Prompt #52 – Emergence

Poetry Challenge – Write a 10 line rhyming poem (the pattern of rhyming / form / structure is your choice) on the theme of transformation and emergence.

The transformation of a once darkened soul
comes through the renewal of the mind
letting go of thought patterns from days of ole
allowing pride to be shamed into humility
laying down hatred and choosing to be kind
freeing oneself of greed through generosity
using forgiveness to cause anger to become unbind
pouring out love in the midst of adversity
choosing to walk the enlightened path divine
brings emergence of a soul’s incorruptible beauty refined
